Goddess Laxmi

In Hindu religion, every worshipped Goddess is referred to as the mother of all living beings residing on this Earth. The same goes with the worship of Goddess Laxmi. Called as the “Goddess of Wealth”, she is said to bring in wealth and food to the house. Goddess Laxmi is said to descend as the consorts of the avatars of Lord Vishnu- Rama and Krishna, as Sita and Rukmini respectively. In her honour, the festivals of Diwali and Sharad Purnima are celebrated. Diwali is celebrated during the month of October-November and Sharad Purnima is celebrated in the month of April-May every year. The Brahmins are of the notion that all the rituals of Laxmi Puja can be completed by shooing away the Alaxmi and bringing home Goddess Laxmi in the form of an idol.
Laxmi is the goddess of wealth, fortune, power, luxury, beauty and auspiciousness. She holds the promise of material fulfillment and contentment. The popularity of Lakshmi can be gauged by the fact that her sacred name—Shri. Shri is written atop most documents and spoken before addressing a god, a teacher, a holy man or any revered individual. The word evokes amongst other things: grace, affluence, abundance, auspiciousness, authority. When the word is spoken or written, an aura of holiness is established. Whatever follows the word is imbued with divine blessing. Married men and women are addressed as Shriman and Shrimati as they have Lakshmi’s blessings to harness the wealth of the world to support family and sustain society.
The various mantras for the worship of Goddess Laxmi are:
.Lakshmi Beej Mantra:
Om Hreem Sheem Lakshmibhayo Namah ||
Chanting this mantra 108 times helps bring in happiness and prosperity in the house. It also assures good health for the family members. This mantra can also to be recited 1.25 lacs times within 72 days and do Havan after this.
.Maha Lakshmi mantra:
Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Kamale Praseed Praseed
Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Mahalakshmaye Namah||
Chanting this mantra means requesting Goddess Laxmi to give all luck during hard times for any member of the family.
.Lakshmi Gayatri Mantra:
Om Shree Mahalakshmyai Cha Vidmahe Vishnu Patnyai Cha Dheemahi Tanno Lakshmi Prachodayat Om ||
This mantra cleans the inner part of the body, i.e., the mind of all the evil thoughts. This Lakshmi Mantra is to be recited 21x108 times (21 mala of lakshmi Mantra) on the day of Diwali.
An idol of Goddess Laxmi besides bringing in luck, wealth and prosperity, can also accentuate the way of life. Ones worries and tension takes a null value and one can lead a happy and prosperous life.
